NaNoWriMo

Heavily edited book with pen

Just in case you’ve not heard of this, November is National Novel Writing Month. And it’s not just a celebration of the novel and writers and a stimulus to start one or finish one or even read one.  No. As if the thought of writing a novel isn’t daunting enough NaNoWriMo is the month when you write THE WHOLE THING! IN 30 DAYS! Madness… or is it?

Having had a novel in my head for the last cough cough mumble years, I think it might just be the answer. A reason to get on and do it. A deadline, which is great because if prevaricating was an Olympic sport, I’m sure I could win gold. Deadlines make you sit down and write, even when that empty page is scaring the living daylights out of you.

So at the  risk of sending my family and friends round the twist, I have signed up, and will give it my best shot. 50,000 words – if I do it, at least I’ll have a first draft and Robyn, Bryn and Holly  will be on the page instead of in my head. So wish me (and all the other NaNoWriMos out there) luck. I’ll let you know how I get on.

Izzy.

Simon and I are actively encouraging everyone to get involved in this if they have a creative spark – this is the month to let it fly!

Looking forward to seeing what you make of it lovely lady,

Erm, I’m not doing it this year.

Goodness, Sarah, 8 years running!!! That’s some achievement – well done! I think you deserve a year off. But any tips will be most gratefully received!

Hi Sarah, I just looked at your website. You are really an inspiration! Five books published from your NaNo successes and others as well! Amazing!

Hi Izzy! Delighted you are doing the novel in a month. You can do this, I know you can, even if you have to retire to the airing cupboard to get peace and quiet. I have thought about this for a couple of years… you’d have to abandon quite a few other activities (cooking, housework, bedmaking, not to mention your therapy work and chatting to friends… you have to be focussed and dare I say it, selfish. Not in your nature but… You can do it!! The very best of luck, though I hope it doesn’t mean cancellation of Nov 16th visit?? I would understand, much as I want to see you all. We’ll just postpone it by that crucial month. Remember, just getting your 50,00 words done will put you in a special class.

Hmm, the airing cupboard. What a good idea. They’ll never find me…
Still hoping to see you on the 16th Anne. Speak soon.
