Just in case you’ve not heard of this, November is National Novel Writing Month. And it’s not just a celebration of the novel and writers and a stimulus to start one or finish one or even read one. No. As if the thought of writing a novel isn’t daunting enough NaNoWriMo is the month when you write THE WHOLE THING! IN 30 DAYS! Madness… or is it?
Having had a novel in my head for the last cough cough mumble years, I think it might just be the answer. A reason to get on and do it. A deadline, which is great because if prevaricating was an Olympic sport, I’m sure I could win gold. Deadlines make you sit down and write, even when that empty page is scaring the living daylights out of you.
So at the risk of sending my family and friends round the twist, I have signed up, and will give it my best shot. 50,000 words – if I do it, at least I’ll have a first draft and Robyn, Bryn and Holly will be on the page instead of in my head. So wish me (and all the other NaNoWriMos out there) luck. I’ll let you know how I get on.
